Institute on WWII and the Human Experience Spring 2020 Lecture

Join the Institute on World War II and the Human Experience for our annual Spring Lecture by Professor Kara Dixon Vuic of Texas Christian University, who will speak on the contribution of American women to twentieth century warfare. This talk will follow the young, adventurous American women who traveled to warzones to entertain soldiers, boost their morale, and remind them of the stakes of victory.

Kara Dixon Vuic is the LCpl Benjamin W. Schmidt Professor of War, Conflict, and Society in Twentieth-Century America at Texas Christian University and author of the newly released The Girls Next Door: Brining the Home Front to the Front Lines (Harvard University Press, 2019). She is also the author of Officer, Nurse, Woman: The Army Nurses Corps in the Vietnam War (Johns Hopkins University Press, 2010) and the Routledge Handbook on Gender, War, and the Military (2017), and co-editor (with Richard Fogarty) of the University of Nebraska Press’s book series: “Studies in War, Society, and the Military.” She is currently co-editing a collection “Managing Sex in the U.S. Military” with Beth Bailey, Alesha Doan, and Shannnon Portillo and working on a new book called “Drafting Women.”
