Art for Social Justice Camp

The mission of the Art for Social Justice Summer Art Camp is to explore the role that the arts can play in all parts of our life.  We believe in the intrinsic value of art, its importance as a social good, and as a catalyst for the development of individuals.  The aims of our summer program include learning about educational, social, political and cultural sites of learning. Our educational values are to be learner centered and service oriented; to create an awareness of the important role the arts play in our lives, and to create educational and artistic experiences for the young people through rich and meaningful summer programming focused on causes greater than ourselves. 

During this one week summer program, rising 7th-11th graders will be able to artistically explore social justice issues. We will promote student interest in self, community, and the world by giving them opportunities to find their own voice within a creative community.  We will encourage young people to express their passions through experimental art mediums. Students will broaden their perspective and understanding of cultural and social needs in our community and gain the confidence to make a difference.  The camp is not designed to push one world view over another, instead the focus of our camp is to provide a space for young people to develop their voices through creative exploration. We hope you will join us this year for an exciting week filled with art making, friendship, and community building!
