While under house arrest in Beijing, Ai Weiwei remotely transformed Alcatraz, a former island penitentiary and current national park in America, into a remarkable expression of socially engaged art. With his exhibit, Weiwei encourages thousands of visitors to write to prisoners of conscience worldwide. This documentary focuses on an artist and an activist, who has been imprisoned, and creates an exhibit to expose the nature of political imprisonment.
