Leon County is now accepting applications for the fall 2024 semester of the award-winning Leon Works Junior Apprenticeship Program. In partnership with CareerSource Capital Region and Leon County Schools, this program grants high school juniors and seniors residing in and attending public, charter, private, and virtual schools within Leon County a unique opportunity to earn hourly wages while building valuable workforce skills. Interested applicants should apply at LeonCountyFL.gov/JRApprentice. The application deadline is Sunday, March 31.

The Leon County Junior Apprenticeship program underscores the County’s commitment to fostering talent and creating a robust future workforce by bridging academic pursuits with real-world applications in skilled trades that are imperative for today’s workforce.

Since 2017, the program has placed students in many different positions to build valuable workplace skills and earn hourly wages. In a bid to enhance the program, Leon County expanded its eligibility criteria on January 1, 2023, to include all Leon County high school juniors and seniors attending public, charter, private, or virtual schools within the county.

The program is currently looking to fill positions in the following areas: Computer-Aided Design (CAD)
Construction Contract Management
EMT/Paramedic
Fleet Mechanic
Graphics and Digital Design – Community and Media Relations
IT Tech Support
Medical Administrative Associate
Web Development
To participate, students must be enrolled in or have completed a high school-level Career and Technical Education (CTE) course or program. Students in the program will earn an hourly salary, an elective credit towards their high school diploma, and complete the CareerSource Capital Region’s LEAP training, preparing them to enter the workforce after graduation. Students with Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WOIA) qualifications are highly encouraged to apply.

The Leon Works Junior Apprenticeship Program plays a pivotal role in preparing youth for well-paying job opportunities in the future. By the year 2026, more than 70,000 skilled jobs are projected to be available in Leon County. To meet the needs of growing job sectors, Leon County aims to achieve the strategic goal of connecting 7,000 students to middle-skilled careers that require more than a high school diploma but less than a four-year degree.
