Posted: Jul 16, 2018
This is a 16 week, non-credit, hands-on, practical course designed for students and community members who want to explore a business idea, start a business for the first time, or plan to expand an existing business. The emphasis will be placed on the practical aspects of performing a competitor analysis, estimating an accurate sales forecast, creating a marketing plan, and determining your necessary (lean start-up or bootstrapping) expenses. Students will gain the knowledge and proper format to write a complete business plan worthy of submission to an investor or bank.
Develop an entrepreneurial mind-set by performing a competitor analysis analyzing their intended business vs. three of their closest competitors using a Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats (SWOT) format.
Use the North American Industrial Classification System (NAICS) using the Internet and other sales and marketing tools to forecast appropriately their annual sales.
Identify their customers (their target market).
Study low cost marketing strategies and choose the right mix to reach their target market with an appropriate frequency.
Identify low cost, lean start-up expense methodology to save their scarce resources (time, labor, and money).
Learn about start-up and small business capital sources.
Determine if their business is a “go” or “no-go” according to their analysis and their level of risk.
