Come to the Irish Repertory Theater’s staged reading of banned books at Theatre Tallahassee’s Studio, Friday, November 17 (7:30pm), Saturday, November 18 (7:30pm), and Sunday, November 19 (2:30pm). 100% of the proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to the American Library Association’s “Unite Against Book Bans” campaign. Renowned author and FSU Professor David Kirby will introduce the readings and speak about their literary merit. Erika Stone will read from Margaret Atwood’s “A Handmaid’s Tale.” Ken Lambert will read from John Steinbeck’s “Of Mice and Men.” Dee Selmore will read from Alice Walker’s “A Color Purple,” Toni Morrison’s “The Bluest Eye,” and Amanda Gorman’s 2020 inauguration poem “The Hill We Climb.” Ray O’Neal will read from Ralph Ellison’s “Invisible Man.” Ty Wold will read from H.G. Wells’s “The War of the Worlds.” Aiko Austin will read from Lee Harper’s “To Kill a Mockingbird.” Maz Neamand will read from Anne Frank’s “The Diary of a Young Girl.”
Local bookstore Common Ground Books will sell these books and others at the event, as well as informational materials on banned books. Heavy hors-d’oeuvres by caterers Tally Arepas and Tasty K will be available for purchase. Wine, beer, and soft drinks will be served throughout the event. All purchases may be made with cash or via Venmo.
