The Tallahassee Bach Parley is getting into the Holiday spirit. On Dec. 13, 2020 they will present a Holiday Concert online, with all links on www.BachParley.org.

Five of the Bach Parley musicians gathered spaced-apart with masks on to record as an ensemble, and Music Director Valerie Arsenault reports, “This was the first time we were able to play together since February. When we started the first rehearsal, we looked at each other with smiling eyes above our masks and sighed – it felt wonderful.”

At 3:00 PM on Sunday, December 13, Arsenault will be available to chat live on the Bach Parley Facebook page before the 3:15 PM concert premiere. She says, “I always love to walk around and visit with people in the audience before every Bach Parley concert, and by going live at 3:00 PM, I get to do this online.” Minyoung Cho will join Arsenault on violin, Melissa Brewer on viola, Kim Jones on cello, and Charlie Brewer on harpsichord.

The program is instrumental music for Advent and Christmas, with French Noëls transformed into dancing suites, “pastorale” music for shepherds, complete with a stringed instrument version of alpine horns, and a special sonata by Heinrich Ignaz Biber called ‘The Annunciation,’ a musical depiction of the terrifying yet awe-inspiring visit of the Angel Gabriel to a young woman named Mary. Arsenault says, “I imagine the first section of this piece begins with a rush winds of Angel wings, travels through Gabriel telling Mary, ‘Be not afraid,’ and concluding with Mary’s answer, ‘Yes.’”
