This facilitated workshop aims to direct students about the most important aspects of playing traditional West African drum rhythms.
Attendees will be exposed to an environment that is conducive to learning while they work as a cohesive unit to express tradition West African rhythms. This workshop will also address the origin and purpose of Sinte and Sorsonet. By the conclusion of this workshop, students have more control of bass -tone- slap sequences as well as a better understanding of the function of calls and breaks.
Objectives:
-Discuss origin of Sinte and Sorsenet
-Discuss importance of tuning a drum
-Practice three basic djembe techniques
-Practice calls and breaks
-Practice Sinte rhythm
-Practice Sorsonet rhythm
