Inclusive Spring Break Camp - Broadway Time Machine

Inclusive Spring Break Camp - Broadway Time Machine

Presented by Making Light Productions at Making Light Productions

Put a spring in your performer's step this March with Making Light's Broadway Time Machine camp!  Each day of Spring Break, we'll “visit” different time periods through Broadway shows.  Divided into two age groups, campers will participate in music, art, dance and theatre related to the day's theme. Campers bring their own lunches but two snacks and water are provided throughout the day.  After lunch, we watch an age-appropriate movie related to the day's theme.

Our ratio is never greater than 1 adult to 10 students, and as a result, our spring break camp is limited to 20 registered students.  (Please note that campers are exempt from the MLP annual registration fee, but a deposit of 50% is required at the time of registration to secure the camper's place.)

MON (March 13) – Medieval Times...“Camelot,”  “Pippin,”  “Robin Hood,” “Into the Woods”

Craft crowns and shields and participate in a Lego castle-building contest!   Learn the basics of stage combat (with completely safe “weapons,” of course), and sing songs from classic Broadway shows. Did you know that medieval courts featured some of history's first “line dancers?”  The “dark ages” have never been so bright!

TUES (March 14) – 1500s to 1700s...“Pocahontas,” “Hamilton,” “1776,” “Les Miserables” and “Beauty and the Beast”

We'll “sing with all the colors of the wind” and rap our way (all clean lyrics, of course :-) through the founding of our country, as we also discuss what was going on simultaneously around the world.  We'll create tri-cornered hats in costume class and learn how to create believable plates, knives, forks and other handheld props in Stagecraft. Don't throw away your shot – at an awesome day camp!

WED (March 15)  -  1800s...“Oliver,” “The King and I” and “Pirates of Penzance”

Our Pirate Crews will create their own team flags, as they vie for the title of “Pirate King/Queen” in our Pirate Olympics (Tell the truth: If that were on ESPN, you would totally watch it!).  The music of Gilbert & Sullivan and Rogers and Hammerstein will be our soundtrack for a day of fun on the (imaginary) high seas.

THURS (March 16)  - Early 20th century...“Mary Poppins,” “Hello Dolly,”  “Annie,” and “The Sound of Music”

“Mary Poppins” gave us the world's greatest clean-up song and “The Sound of Music” teaches the musical scale better than music class –  and “Annie” gave kids everywhere the idea of sliding down bannisters.  Luckily, our facility only has one floor!  But we'll learn some awesome “Hard Knock Life” choreography today, play Broadway Bingo, and kick off a Broadway karaoke contest.

FRI (March 17) -   Mid-20th century...“West Side Story,” “Grease,” and “Hairspray”

You can't stop the beat at our Friday day camp:  We'll learn to hand jive and take “prom pictures” in our 50s-themed photo booth – with photo props like 50s sunglasses, beehive or greaser hairdos, gold records and “Rydell High” banners, that we've made ourselves!

MON (March 20) – Out of This World:  “Cats,” “The Wiz”/”Wicked,” “Seussical,” “The Lion King”

Don't forget about this extra day off!   While teachers are doing their spring cleaning/planning after spring break, we'll spend a day with TIMELESS musicals set in other worlds –  where cats talk and sing, elephants dance and Truffala trees grow wild and free. In theatre, we'll discuss and practice the use of puppets in the “The Lion King” stage show. And we'll create our own skits set to rhyme, in the style of the great Dr. Seuss!

If you wish to register for one or more days of Spring Break camp, after registering, simply email info@makinglightproductions.org with the specific days you wish your child to attend camp.
