Javacya Arts Conservatory continues its Arts in the Heart Concert Series 2022-2023 featuring the Javacya Elite Chamber Orchestra with the Derek Menchan Trio on Friday, February 3, 2023, at 7:30 pm at St. Peter’s Anglican Cathedral, 4784 Thomasville Road, Tallahassee, Florida.  Alongside Menchan will be Kinga Augustyn, Violin, and Joanna Sobkowska-Parsons, Piano. The trio will perform the iconic “Triple Concerto” by Beethoven, traditionally known as the Concerto in C major, Opus 56.  Polymath Derek Menchan was trained “classically,” as a ‘cellist, at the Manhattan School, whence he took a Master’s degree, studied with Olga Rostropovich, and was awarded the Pablo Casals Award for Musical Accomplishment and Human Endeavor. He has concertized as a soloist and chamber musician extensively throughout the U.S. and in Europe and Canada, and has had world premieres of his arrangements and compositions in fêted halls, across the country. Polish American Kinga Augustyn is a versatile New York City-based virtuoso concert violinist and recording artist. Ms. Augustyn has performed as a soloist with orchestras in the United States, Europe, and Asia. Ms. Augustyn studied at The Juilliard School and earned there both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees and holds a doctorate from Stony Brook University. Born in Warsaw, Poland, Dr. Joanna Sobkowska has served on the faculties of Universidad del Cauca in Popayan, Colombia and Universidad del Valle, Cali, Colombia. She received her master’s degree from the Chopin Academy in Warsaw, Poland, and her Doctor of Music from Florida State University. She is the Professor of piano studies in the Department of Music at Florida A&M University. Special guests include Dr. Jessie D. Owens, Piano and Dennine White, Flute. Other pieces that will be performed are the Piano Concerto No. 23 in A Major, K. 488 (1st Movement) by W. A. Mozart, and the debut performance of Piano Sextet No. 6 by Javacya alum, Kenneth Hills, Jr. Free admission; donations are appreciated.
