Susan Stubb of Monticello, Peggy Kelly of Tallahassee are featured artists this month along with Visiting Artist Ann Kozeliski. Visitors may meet Ann at the gallery April 21st from 5- 8 p.m.
Visiting artist, Ann Kozeliski has embraced an ancient art form, Sumi-e, and through her representation of contemporary subject matter she has made it her own, while respecting its tradition. In the spontaneous style of this art form, the essence of the subject is distilled to a powerful image, leaving a memorable impact on the viewer, the same way a haiku leaves its reader with a clear image while using words. It is truly a Zen experience when painter and subject become one on paper. Susan Stubbs has been actively creating her photo-realistic art with colored pencils and late last year received a first-place award at an international competition. Three years ago, Susan began oil painting and has excelled in this medium as she did with colored pencils. Susan has exhibited her artwork in the Jefferson Art Gallery in Monticello and the Tallahassee Senior Center Senior Showcase where she won an award. Peggy Kelly's artwork includes drawing with Prismacolor pencils, acrylic painting on canvas, glass ornaments and wood, and photography. Her passion for art began early in her life. She studied art in college earning several awards and held several art related positions during her school years. After graduating, she taught math and art in middle school. Since 2005, she has exhibited her artwork in Tallahassee, including Market Days, the LeMoyne Holiday Show, and the Junior League Holiday Gift Market. Art is her way of translating the joy she sees and share the joy of this gift with others.
