Project Daring Mural

By Olivia Barattini and Savannah Salinas, commissioned by the Junior League of Tallahassee

For more than 60 years, the Junior League of Tallahassee (JLT) has positively impacted the Big Bend through volunteerism and philanthropy. Most recently, JLT, in partnership with the Florida Department of State, saw an opportunity to visually celebrate female trailblazers and leadership through a commissioned mural. The mural project is entitled “Project Daring” and includes three distinguished women, all of who have been inducted into Florida Women’s Hall of Fame:

Zora Neale Hurston— author of “Their Eyes Were Watching God”
Betty Mae Jumper— first female chief of the Seminole Tribe
Majorie Harris Carr— recognized environmentalist
The quote selected to envelope the 3 women within the mural is one from Pulitzer Prize winner and former Junior League of Jackson volunteer Eudora Welty.

JLT has selected two local artists, Olivia Barattini and Savannah Salinas to create the large-scale mural.
