Illumination

From an early age, John E. Metcalfe was drawn to all things artistic. He studied architectural and mechanical drafting, which allowed him to develop an eye for perspective and form.  As an adult, Metcalfe became an avid art collector and opened a Havana based gallery to house his ever expanding collection. In 2001, his love for collecting artwork turned into a love for creating it. Metcalfe started painting landscapes in a dramatic and impressionistic style. These unforgettable paintings are often described by the artist as “confetti.” That celebratory spirit is infused throughout his exuberant, colorful, and energetic artworks. Metcalfe’s work has been exhibited locally with the Council on Culture & Arts, the Gadsden Art Center, LeMoyne Center for Visual Arts and regionally, in Sarasota, Ft. Lauderdale and Miami.
