Don’t miss cellist Gabriel Martins this Wednesday! The orchestra is diligently preparing for this concert – enjoy the sneak peek! This performance promises to be a journey through tradition, revival, and rebirth. Shostakovich’s poignant Symphony No. 5, originally slated for the TSO’s March 2020 concert, was tragically halted by the onset of COVID-19. Sasha Tuck, a respected figure in the jazz scene, recently made Tallahassee her home after leaving a mark in the Tampa Bay Area. Known for her exceptional vocal artistry, Sasha’s talent has earned admiration from peers, including acclaimed musician Dave Hamar. Described as exuding “freedom and adventure” in her performances, Sasha brings fresh ideas to every musical setting. She offers jazz ensembles for various venues and events, hosts workshops, provides vocal coaching in recording studios, and offers private instruction for ages 14 and up. Mickee Faust Club

Prepare for a night of laughter at The Mickee Faust Club’s 2022 Spring Cabaret: “Too Faust To Die.” Featuring original writing, comedy sketches, musical parodies, and personal monologues, this 90-minute show promises plenty of humor and quirky charm. Performances are at 8:00 PM on March 17-19 and March 24-26, with the bluegrass band Eclectic Acoustic playing at 7:00 PM in the newly renovated backyard. Tallahassee Youth Orchestras

In a historic moment in May 2017, the Tallahassee Youth Symphony Orchestra showcased “Celestial Dances,” a youth ballet composed by the esteemed Ellen Taaffe Zwilich, a faculty member at FSU. This marked the first time a major composer had been commissioned to create and premiere a work for the Tallahassee Youth Orchestras. Fast forward to Sunday, February 27th, and TYO is set to revive “Celestial Dances” in collaboration with The Ballet Arts Conservatory of Tallahassee, gracing FSU’s Ruby Diamond Concert Hall once again. Being a lifelong resident of Wakulla County, he is committed to contributing to the coastal beauty of Florida through locally produced artwork, based in Panacea, FL. While preparing a backdrop for a media event, Museum curators noticed that the state seal being used was an outdated version. The highly skilled design and fabrication team at the Museum of Florida History were enlisted to produce an updated one. Michael Riffle

Artist Michael Riffle finds solace in nature, having embraced the outdoors since his youth. Initially drawn to hiking, he later discovered a passion for photography, which he now integrates into his outdoor adventures. Equipped with camera gear, he captures various facets of nature, from underwater landscapes in Florida’s springs to infrared, wildlife, landscape, and astrophotography. Theatre TCC! begins its 2021-2022 live theatre season with John Cariani’s “Almost, Maine” from October 7 to 9 and October 15 to 16, with a matinee on October 17. Set in Almost, Maine, a remote northern town, the play unfolds on a winter night under the mesmerizing northern lights. Artist Barbara Balzer utilizes a modified autopsy table in her brick garden, courtesy of metalsmith Mark Dickson. Her work “Rhetorical Assassin” undergoes glazing stages on this unconventional surface, aiming to enhance depth and interest. Balzer and Lesley Nolan’s ceramic figure exploration headlines an exhibit, supplemented by abstract 2D pieces from local and regional artists. Perdita Ross

Railroad Square Art Park hosts vibrant first Friday events with live music and open galleries. The Hyatt House features artwork from local artists, including Perdita Ross, known for community-centered cut-paper art displayed in hotel elevators. On October 1, 621 Gallery collaborates with Perdita for a Blacklight Art Event, followed by paper workshops on October 2 and 3, utilizing recycled fluorescent paper from the event. Katie Clark

Katie Clark, a third-generation photographer and poet, draws inspiration from her family’s legacy in the field, with both her father and grandmother having been photographers. Following their passing, Katie turned to photography as a means of coping with her grief, feeling their presence with her with every click of the shutter. Her versatility is evident in her diverse portfolio, which spans various forms of photography including landscape, portrait, nature, and photojournalism. See here feature here.

Jeff Ripple

Jeff Ripple is a self-taught landscape oil painter based in Tallahassee, known for his meticulously planned drawings and reliance on sketches painted in nature to inform his studio work. His treatment of light and atmosphere reflects influences from 19th-century American artists of the Hudson River School and Luminist traditions. While many of his studio paintings draw from imagination and personal experiences, Jeff’s artistic process is rooted in contemplation and a deep appreciation for the natural world. Represented by I. Robert Saltarelli

Studio Saltarelli, located at 1021 Commercial Drive in Railroad Square, functions both as a working studio and a gallery showcasing over 30 paintings at any given time. Renowned artist Robert Saltarelli explores various genres of visual arts, ranging from traditional to modern, abstract impressionistic, pop, and street art. Visitors are encouraged to experience Robert’s art in person, as the diverse styles on display promise an engaging visit. Guests can witness works in progress and engage in discussions with the artist about his creative vision. VENVI ART Gallery

Brinda Pamulapati, an artist who initially pursued painting casually, honed her skills under the mentorship of Professor Jacob Pichhadze. Inspired by his guidance, she established Venvi Art Gallery in 2015, with her debut show at McDonald House Gallery, Toronto. While known for her abstract work, Brinda has recently ventured into mixed media, incorporating her mother’s traditional sarees into her art. This fusion of traditional textiles with abstract techniques adds a unique dimension to her creations. Mark Dickson

Mark Dickson’s sculptures showcase his deep love for metal, expressed through constant experimentation with various types and finishes. Utilizing welding, forging, and casting techniques, he continuously pushes the boundaries of the medium. With a diverse educational background and extensive apprenticeships, his expertise is wide-ranging. Mark’s works grace collections across the Southeast, from large-scale pieces suitable for landscapes to intricate vessels reflecting his craftsmanship. Characterized by tight design, light abstraction, and the use of multiple metals and pigments, his sculptures evoke a sense of “ancient futurism,” blending modernity with hints of antiquity. Following retirement and raising her children, she wholeheartedly pursued her passion for art. The Grove Museum

Experience the newly installed Grounds Exhibit at The Grove Museum with a guided tour on July 17th. Wanderlust: Theatre on Location

Wanderlust: Theatre on Location presents “The Frenchtown Project,” an innovative auditory walking theatre experience crafted in collaboration with the Frenchtown Heritage Trail. Museum of Florida History

The Museum of Florida History is now welcoming visitors with a new exhibit titled “Beyond the Vote: Florida Women’s Activism.” Showcasing the diverse ways women have driven change across various issues such as suffrage, civil rights, environmentalism, and equal rights, the exhibit highlights their significant contributions. Invisual Creative

Jeff Mitchell of Orchard Pond Plantation and Lydia Bell of Invisual Creative collaborated on a commissioned project for a local medical practice, creating portrait frames. They repurposed locally grown Black Walnut and Cherry hardwoods from the plantation, milling them into beautiful frames to showcase portraits of the same land. Each frame is handcrafted from gathering the trees to milling, constructing, and finishing. The frames highlight the wood’s natural colors and characteristics, enhancing the local landscape portraits. See their feature here.

The Sharing Tree

The Art Bus is an extension of The Sharing Tree’s commitment to fostering creativity, innovation, and collaboration while supporting children, families, communities, and the environment. Facing challenges during the pandemic and the need to find a new solution after relinquishing their building space, they conceived the idea of transforming a school bus into a mobile outdoor art studio. Prioritizing safe learning practices, social distancing, and open-air environments, the bus serves as an ideal platform to transport their mission. Diane Dyal

Diane Dyal has a small studio in a former bedroom of her small Tallahassee home. She enjoys creating in this sunny space with a cheery pink curtain that holds all her art supplies and gets visited by her two cats, Stripedie and Oliver. She admits this studio is a great place to work and even contains two easels, but her new four-foot-long canvases are in another room. She plans on working in a larger format in the near future. Tallahassee Bach Parley

A virtual concert features Valerie Prebys Arsenault playing Vilsmayr’s Suite II for scordatura violin, offering unique sonorities. Kim Jones performs a suite by Dall’Abaco for cello. The finale includes Arsenault, Jones, and Charles E. Brewer playing Heinrich Franz Biber’s Sonata X, the Crucifixion, also for scordatura violin. Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra

Theater with a Mission

Theater with a Mission (TWAM) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to portraying significant moments in Florida’s history through plays. Comprising actors, scholars, and cultural explorers, TWAM aims to highlight Florida’s multicultural roots. Their ongoing project, “Florida for Sale,” explores the state’s 200th anniversary of becoming U.S. territory. Recently, due to COVID-19, the play’s format shifted from an immersive experience in Tallahassee to a film, set to debut at the Loco for Love virtual festival on March 27, 2021. Lincoln High School Chalk Walk 2021

Under the guidance of Lincoln High School art teacher Marilyn Proctor Givens, five students completed a chalk artwork in honor of Florida artist Daniel Wynn. Led by student photographer Jaden Story, the team worked diligently over several days. Shena Kamata, Lincoln High School Chalk Walk

Shena Kamata, a digital student at Lincoln High School, decided to join the 2021 Chalk Walk event by transforming her home’s driveway into a canvas. She opted to recreate an artwork by Florida artist Gary Borse using chalk. The Chalk Walk event, organized by COCA in collaboration with the Florida Division of Cultural Affairs and Leon County Schools, aims to promote arts education advocacy during Arts Week at the Florida State Capitol. Museum of Fine Arts (MoFA)

In the Fall of 2020, MoFA sought proposals from local artists for a new mural project. They were asked one question: What kinds of images do you think are missing from the MoFA campus? Sam McCoy’s and Christopher Rivera’s “Paper Trails” enlivens the museum’s courtyard with its pops of tropical color and collage-like composition. Over two weeks in February, McCoy and Rivera worked together to fashion this lush riff on the traditional landscape. See their feature here.

Tallahassee Downtown

Tallahassee Downtown is an organization aimed at ‘making downtown work better.’ They collaborate with downtown businesses to promote downtown Tallahassee as a growing destination for development – business, entrepreneurship, ongoing education, resources, and entertainment for any individual. Tallahassee Youth Orchestras

The Tallahassee Youth Orchestras (TYO) and guest artist Avis Berry will present “Justice: From Siberia to Alabama” on February 21 at 3:00 pm. The concert, exploring human history and resilience, will feature TYO Symphony and Chamber Orchestra performing works by Copland and Leyden, along with traditional spirituals. Grant Peeples

Tallahassee artist Grant Peeples has stayed busy during lockdown by tending to his garden, raising chickens, and continuing his creative work. He shares poetry on social media, is working on a new album, and ran a personal marathon as a fundraiser. Grant is studying Shakespeare and hosts the online series ‘Clay Tablets,’ with the final episode airing on YouTube Live on February 16th at 8:30 pm EST. See his feature here.

Knight Creative Communities Institute

The Art of the Box Project by KCCI turns traffic control boxes into outdoor art in Tallahassee. Local artists’ works are printed on vinyl wraps, enhancing streetscapes. Launched in September 2020, it revealed six boxes and added three more in January 2021. KCCI, a local nonprofit, focuses on “sense of place” projects for economic mobility. The 2021 Community Catalyst Team continues and expands the initiative to enhance public art in the city. See their feature here.

Katy Fedore, the visionary costume designer for Southern Shakespeare Company, has been bringing whimsy and historical accuracy to productions for two years. Currently, she’s working on costumes for the May production of Twelfth Night set in the Ottoman Empire. See their feature here.

Spring House Benefit Concert

Tallahassee musicians Dr. Samuel Peliska, Natasha Marsalli, Ken Davis, Hunter Sanchez, and Ryan Snapp are teaming up with the Spring House Institute to raise funds for the restoration of Spring House, the only Florida residence designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. The musicians, known for their performances with regional symphony orchestras, aim to contribute to the preservation of this historically significant home by donating all proceeds from their concert to the Spring House Institute. Eliza Schneider-Green

Eliza Schneider-Green of The Silk and Cotton Shop shifted from making greeting cards to sewing masks full-time since March 2020 due to the pandemic. Working from her studio apartment, she has crafted nearly 10,000 masks and plans to continue until the demand diminishes. Del Suggs & Pierce Pettis

Pierce Pettis and Del Suggs have been touring the world and performing their own songs since they both graduated from Florida State. Camerata South

Celebrate Beethoven’s 250th birthday with a free live performance by Camerata South at the Thomasville Center for the Arts on December 17 at 6:30 PM. Once Great Estate, a five-piece Americana band formed by Tracy Horenbein in 2018, blends dark Americana and Southern Gothic elements in their music. Tracy leads on vocals and guitar, accompanied by a talented lineup of multi-instrumentalists. They’ve performed at various venues and festivals. Scott Geraci

Scott Geraci, a Tallahassee artist, transitioned from photography to sculpture and installation during his art studies at FSU.
