Indaba is a Zulu word for coming together for a meeting or purpose.  Our purpose is to inspire, empower, uplift, and create healthy outlets of self-expression; using theater as therapy to help people overcome obstacles in their life.  Indaba uses the healing modality of art in all its forms.

Indaba, Incorporated our Tallahassee based Florida branch of Indaba of New England, Incorporated has several projects.

  • Mural Project – Large outdoor and indoor mural projects that reflect local community heroes.
  • Garden Project – Creating sustainability for the center and to promote community wellness through healthy dietetic choices.
  • Theatrical Productions – Fostering self-expression through creative processes
  • Mentoring – The youth mentoring program is designed to prepare children in high-poverty families to succeed in school and life. The pioneering, community-mobilization movement, created by subject-matter experts, aims to propel Black children from impoverishment to independence.  The college-aged mentoring program is an innovative, curriculum-based initiative that uses a three-tiered group mentoring model in which corporate volunteers in STEM-related professions coach college students from Historically Black Colleges and Universities but not exclusive to (HBCUs) who then follow our culturally anchored, STEM curriculum to coach and mentor middle and high school students.  The program also provides after-school mentoring and support in addition to the service learning projects of gardening, storytelling, and theater.
  • Wellness Circles are healing gatherings through which we are deepening our reach into struggling African American communities. These community circles provide a safe place for reflection and connection, where our mentors and other community leaders can learn to relieve the debilitating stress that many members of our community shroud in silence.
  • All programs lead to an end of semester production, highlighting the growth in program participants.
