Sopchoppy Preservation and Improvement Association hosts the annual Sopchoppy Worm Gruntin’ Festival every year on the 2nd Saturday in April.  We began the organization in the year 2000 and have raised money to contribute to our local food bank, the local wildlife rescue organization, and helped to fund rebuilding of the old Sopchoppy Train Depot building. Contributions have been made to Operation Santa, we have commissioned photo murals and artist paintings on downtown buildings that showcase the history and culture of our area.  Our sole funding vehicle is the annual Worm Gruntin’ Festival which brings in several thousand visitors each year from around the region and the nation.  We start the festival with a 5K Race and have about 100 vendors of arts and crafts and food.  People flock to see the worm gruntin’ demonstration and this is followed by a gruntin’ contest (children only.)  We hold a very competitive Horseshoe championship as well as a hula hoop contest in the afternoon.  There is music all day, ending with the Worm Grunters’ Ball from 6:30pm to 10:00pm.  We have t-shirts and hats that have our worm gruntin’ art of the year –these are sought after and prized by many.  If you get the chance to visit Sopchoppy on the second Saturday in April you’ll thoroughly enjoy yourself with all there is to do and see!
