Speaker: Pete Cowdrey, historic map specialist
Join Pete Cowdrey as he explores the role of historic Florida maps from the Dr. Armand and Ms. Suzanne Cognetta Family Trust Collection. These maps, supplemented by carefully selected others, document Florida’s geographic growth that came to encompass the Southeastern Corner of what became the United States, from the Atlantic Ocean to the trans-Mississippi West, and from the Florida Keys to Virginia. In addition, he will examine the little-known cartographic history of that section of Florida known as “Florida’s Forgotten Coast” (essentially, the Gulf Coast from St. Marks westward to Mexico Beach) across the space of five centuries.
