Join us at LeMoyne Arts for a two-day workshop focusing on the wax fabric dyeing of Batik technique with Marcie Preisler.
Learn the ancient art of surface design on fabric with wax dye. In this workshop, we will learn about the process of applying hot, melted wax to natural fabrics. The wax blocks areas of the fabric from the dye and produces a variety of designs and colors. Day one: All supplies will be included, feel free to bring your own natural fabric, can be white or a color, washed and ready to dye. We will cover the background of batik, and an overview of the dyeing process, with a brief lecture on color theory when dyeing fabric and information about the tools and supplies we will be using. Then we will start right away to apply wax to fabric. Students will be able to finish a piece or two on the first day! Day two: Brief time to share work from the previous day and discuss how the projects turned out, what we like, and what we would prefer to be different. Then we will finish any projects from day one, before starting new, more complex projects. With the information learned in class, students should be able to Batik at home. Instructor will provide printed information as well as samples. Please wear old clothes! The dyes we use are permanent.
Fee: $105 for members, $115 for non-members
