Little Shop of Horrors

Little Shop of Horrors

Presented by Thomasville On Stage And Company (TOSAC) at TOSAC Storefront Theater

Thomasville On Stage And Company (TOSAC) in Thomasville, Georgia,  will present its production of Little Shop of Horrors for the next two weekends, starring Abraham Islas (of Cairo) and Alyssa Sirine (of Thomasville) in the leading roles of Seymour and Audrey. Tallahassee resident Caleb Goodman is the show’s Director, and Musical Director, Lindsey Woods is also from Tallahassee. Other Tallahassee residents in the production are Charles Burden, David Baucum, Jaclyn O’Hara, Lauren Counts, Danielle Beard, Laura Lee McClelland, and Katelyn Paige.   Seymour is an assistant in a flower shop who gets more than he bargained for when the girl of his dreams and the plant of his nightmares both rely on Seymour to be their hero:  Audrey needs Seymour to save her from an abusive relationship and the plant needs Seymour to feed it human flesh.

Assistant Director, Bill Bass, Jr. says, “This has been a production 18 months in the making.  We started working on this project in February 2020, and after selecting a full cast and rehearsing for nearly two months, we had to suspend activities due to COVID.  Now we're back and we just can't wait to bring this one to the Theater on the Bricks at TOSAC!”   Director Caleb Goodman asks “what makes this musical a cultural touchstone? In a word: heart. Little Shop of Horrors is many things: a contemporary retelling of the Faust legend, a subversive musical comedy, a morality play, an homage to the alien-invasion movies of the 1950s and ’60s; there are even more than a few similarities between it and classical Greek tragedy. But to me, all these elements are secondary to the story’s core, the relationship between Seymour and Audrey, a pair of downtrodden nobodies searching for meaning  in their mostly miserable lives. Their bond grounds the show in a reality that is relatable, albeit not entirely realistic. It allows the rest of Little Shop to become macabre, borderline farcical, and downright bizarre, because amid it all there is a heart and soul that rivals just about any piece in the musical-theater canon.”
