Artist Jim Roche and Museum Curator Michelle Dean are tag teaming to bring an open forum discussing and viewing the works of Laura Pope Forester and her feminist message.
Sponsored by Georgia Humanities and Pope's Museum, this open air event will discuss and showcase the artwork of one of America's first self-taught outsider art environments. According to the Georgia Department of Community Affairs, Laura Pope Forester , the creator of Popes Museum is ..one of the few documented female artists to do so in the 20th century. Her work has been catalogued by exhibits, books, articles and collections throughout Georgia and the United States...Noted for its quality and patriotic leanings, Pope Forester's work is today recognized as among the oldest documented self-taught art environments in Georgia and the southeast, and is believed to rank among the oldest documented surviving environments in the United States.
