Annie S. Harris’s paintings are an homage to what is good and strong in all of us. She has a deep respect for people, from all walks of life, and their unique ability to rise above adversity.
While her main medium is acrylic paint, Harris often selects unconventional surfaces to paint on, including glass, wood and matboard. Her art comes from her ability to see things as what they can be, rather than what they are.
“A piece of trash to someone else, to me, is a possibility,” she says.
Harris also finds infinite possibility in people and says, "you must never look at someone and say that person is not talented, because talent comes in all shapes and sizes and it’s usually a surprise. It’s not what you see on the outside that makes people artistic or compassionate. We should look for that wherever we can find it.”
Harris often chooses to omit eyes and faces in her artwork, encouraging viewers to see aspects of themselves reflected in the paintings. She shows us that we can gain strength through our common bonds and lift each other up to overcome our struggles.
