Exhibition: EXTRASTATECRAFT

Exhibition: EXTRASTATECRAFT

Presented by Department of Art at FSU at William Johnston Building Gallery

Student work from Print+Media undergraduate seminar led by Art Professor, Joelle Dietrick will exhibiting EXTRASTATECRAFT  in the William Johnston Building Gallery March 17 - April 29, 2016.

This exhibition is inspired by architect Keller Easterling’s 2014 book of the same name. Students of Joelle Dietrick’s spring 2016 advanced undergraduate art seminar Print+Media will present works that consider contemporary infrastructure, not just as the physical spaces we inhabit, but the extras—from ever-present mobile technology to ever-growing super-cities developed free trade zone policy.

These works will include time-based media and static artworks, that demonstrate fearless experimentation with both traditional media and digital tools. Influenced by debates surrounding the term post-internet, the works in this exhibition will be especially attentive to the ways in which images are now circulated. Of particular interest is the way in which digital representation of artworks are generally experienced before the works themselves.

Join us for the opening reception on March 17 from 5:00 - 7:00pm.

The WJB Gallery (room 1085 William Johnston Building) is an 1100-square-foot exhibition space shared and managed by four departments of the College of Fine Arts: Art, Art Education, Art History, and Interior Design.  The 24 x 46-foot glass-walled gallery stretches the length of the central five-story atrium in the Johnston Building, providing rich natural lighting and secure but vivid public exposure for exhibitions. School of Art & Design faculty and students curate exhibitions in consultation with a gallery committee of representatives from each department and the Museum of Fine Arts.
