CANCELLED: Art for Social Justice Summer Camp

CANCELLED: Art for Social Justice Summer Camp

Presented by Florida State University at Florida State University School

The mission of the Art for Social Justice Summer Art Experience is to explore the role that the arts can play in all parts of our life. We believe in the intrinsic value of art, its importance as a social good, and as a catalyst for the development of individuals. The aims of our week long summer camp include learning about how art can give voice to educational, social, political and cultural beliefs. Our educational values are to run a compassionate camp that is learner centered and service oriented. The goal of the camp is to create an awareness of the important role the arts play in our lives and to create educational and artistic experiences for young people to explore their voice.

This years focus is on Creative Disruption.  Creative disruption looks at how we can use art and artmaking to disrupt the status quo.  Inspired by the project, Beautiful Trouble, we will spend a week learning about the world we live in and finding ways to creatively disrupt it, with the ultimate goal of research and transformation through artmaking.  Students will work independently and collaboratively to produce one-of-a-kind works of art and expand upon their knowledge of creative disruption.  Friday activities will include a visit to FSU campus and MOFA!  We hope you will join us this year for an exciting week filled with art making, friendship, and community building!
