The Journey Home

Presented by Wildwood Ballet at Lawton Chiles Performing Arts Center

Wildwood Ballet Company presents The Journey Home on Sunday, March 8th 6:00 pm as a preview fundraiser of the revised Three-Act story ballet that the company will present in France during July 2020. All ticket proceeds will go towards the company's travel expenses.

Drawing inspiration from multiple genres of art, Robin Stuyverson, Wildwood Ballet Company's Artistic Director, began writing the original story ballet ten years ago when she researched her great-grandmother's immigration to America during the 1890's. In addition to historical research, she was inspired by fairy tale ballets popular at that time, an original musical score, a painting, and stories her grandmother told her about her great-grandmother, Sophia. As a result of this, The Journey Home explores themes of loss, light, darkness, and redemption. Revisiting this ancestral thread through the production process, Stuyverson discovered it was not only her grandmothers' stories that she carried within her body's memory, it was her story as well.
