EDDY MUMMA: COMPELLED TO CREATE

April 3 – June 13, 2020

Gadsden Arts Center & Museum, Sara May Love Gallery

This exhibition tells the story of Eddy Mumma, a lonely shut-in living in Gainesville, Florida who taught himself to paint. Mumma mastered the expressive use of color to create emotional, spirit-infused portraits that he refused to sell during his lifetime. Learn the amazing tale of how upon Mumma’s death his work was rescued by a dedicated art collector, and ended up in the collection of the Smithsonian American Art Museum and other major U.S. museums.

Eddy Mumma: Compelled to Create presents the Gadsden Arts Center & Museum’s own collection of 44 paintings by Eddy Mumma, along with works borrowed from the collections of Calynne and Lou Hill, Josh Feldstein, and the Historic Thomas Center Galleries in Gainesville.
