Apalachicola artist, Jane Howard, will have a show of oil paintings displayed in such a way as to create a continuous horizon line around the gallery, drawing attention to that theoretical place where the sea meets the sky.
The show includes beach and seascapes, as well as a selection of Apalachicola town and coastal scenes inspired by her many years of visiting St. George Island in the winter, before choosing to make Apalachicola her permanent home. Her work reflects close observation and thoughtful examination of how the physical world is put together. Beyond that, her paintings contain a certain intelligence and wit that can only come from years of practice and familiarity with her subject. Her adept use of color and texture traces the look and the feel of a season, a time, a place.
I am an "amateur" - one led by enjoyment of an activity or subject. For me, "Look" is just a beginning. Identifying "beauty" or "things of interest" makes me want to know how and why? Shape, color, space, how it fits together, light, what it evokes... I paint things that are meaningful to me. I paint to understand the emotive beauty of the world."
Join us at Live Oak Gallery for the artist's opening reception on Friday, February 28 from 5 - 7 p.m. The show will continue Wednesdays - Saturdays through March 31.
