"A Night at Birdland" will feature the Florida A&M University (FAMU) Jazz Ensemble performing instrumental and vocal renditions of music from great artists such as Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, Thelonious Monk, and Count Basie among others who performed at the Birdland Jazz Club in New York City from 1949-1965. The FAMU Band Rehearsal Hall will be transformed into a likeness of the Birdland Jazz Club and performances will include a guest MC, atmosphere entertainment, fashion show and dancers in addition to the instrumental and vocal music performed by the Jazz Ensemble. This event is a collaboration between the FAMU Department of Music and the FAMU Essential Theatre. Audience members are encouraged to dress in period stylistic attire in order to create an authentic atmosphere.
