This is an eight-week class meant for anyone with an interest in deepening their creative practice and is open to people of all skill-levels. We will be using an “experimental” approach to drawing in the literal sense of the word, going over a series of methods and strategies to move past technical proficiency into an interrogation of what it means to be an art maker. There will be an emphasis put on process rather than product in order to find new ways of communicating visually and expanding beyond a traditional/representational framework. Drawing will be the main vehicle for this exploration but these exercises will translate to any creative endeavor, regardless of medium. The class will build off of a foundational visual vocabulary but we’ll be pushing that vocabulary into territories of both formal and conceptual experimentation. We will also spend a portion of the class looking at other artists and discussing our process.
