Banjo Blues Bluegrass & Beyond

Banjo Blues Bluegrass & Beyond

Presented by New Posh at New Posh

New Posh presents mountain music this Saturday, November 24, at 7:30 p.m., when two-time Florida & North Caroline banjo champion, Mary Z. Cox, leads a house concert with accomplished musicians Brian (guitar) and Jennifer (vocals/bass) Hill joining her on stage. The Hills are known for performing together in the Kenny Hill Band.
This trio will feature songs written and composed by Mary Z, specifically off of her latest CD, Carolina Banjo, and other compositions. Additionally, some old traditional tunes in the genres of old-time and bluegrass, will find their way into the mix. So get ready for Banjo, Bluegrass, Blues and beyond, this weekend.
Mary Z has been a recording artist since 1999. She's recorded 11 CDs, performs at concerts & festivals, presents workshops, and authors banjo & dulcimer books.  Her music has been played on National Public Radio's, "Thistle & Shamrock", and "All Songs Considered," Pandora World Music Genome, & the BBC. She's taught clawhammer banjo for over a decade at the John C. Campbell Folk School and at festivals and other teaching facilities nationwide.
She has been a regular at the Florida Folk Festival, the Earl Scruggs Center in Shelby, NC, the Priceless Festival in the California mountains, and at the Monticello Opera House. She participated in the popular historical DVD series, "Conversations with Old Time Performers."
Many folks know Mary Z for her "Good Morning Banjo" videos on Facebook & YouTube where she posts impromptu banjo & mountain dulcimer videos from unexpected places in the United States and around the globe.  Others know her from the 2016 & 2017 Banjo Babes Calendar & compilation CD.
Aside from owning many museum quality banjos, many of which she will share this Saturday, Mary Z also plays the Dulcimer. She is a first place Florida mountain dulcimer champion, in addition to placing first 4 times at the Brevard, NC, Old-Time Championships and first and second at the Uncle Dave Macon Days in Tennessee.
She has instructed many students and holds two graduate degrees from Florida State University.
