Dr. Jim Hughes served in both Thomasville High School and Colquitt County High School as an English teacher, head football coach, and athletic director for over thirty years. His many awards for outstanding service to interscholastic athletics include the National Federation of Interscholastic Coaches Association’s Distinguished Service Award in 1997 and his induction into the Georgia Athletic Coaches Association (GACA) “Coaches” Hall of Fame in 2009 and the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame in 2014. Dr. Hughes is currently retired. He lives in Thomasville and often leads lively discussions of Flannery O'Connor's stories for the TU Book Club.
