Join Valerie Goodwin for a special presentation: Cutting-Edge Explorations in Quilting and join a Gadsden Arts docent for a tour of the exhibition From the Cedar Chest: Southern Quilting 1830s to Today.
SATURDAY NOVEMBER 9, 11AM AND 2PM
At 11am, Valerie Goodwin will give a presentation: Cutting-Edge Explorations in Quilting. The laser cutter can provide precision cutting that leads to beautiful detail. This session focuses on how it has impacted the cartographic art quilts of Valerie Goodwin. You are invited to learn how this technology works and the journey she has taken exploring its possibilities. Valerie S. Goodwin received degrees in architecture from Washington University and Yale University. Currently she teaches architectural design at Florida A & M University. Most of her work is inspired by a love of maps, aerial views of landscapes and the network of cities. Her award winning work has been widely published and exhibited. She has lectured and given workshops nationally and internationally. At 2pm, join a Gadsden Arts docent in the galleries for a tour of the exhibition and in depth discussion of the personal stories behind the quilts on display.
