Caribé 2019: Celebrate Bahamian Junkanoo

Caribé 2019: Celebrate Bahamian Junkanoo

Presented by Cross-Cultural Coalition of South Side Tallahassee, Inc. at FAMU Way Market Area

On Saturday, beginning at 2 pm, there will be kids' activities, authentic Caribbean food, arts/crafts vendors, Caribbean bands and DJs on stage and, from 4 to 5 pm, a full-costume parade led by a Bahamian group from Orlando, "Junkanoo Near You" headed up by FAMU alumnus DeVaughan "Woody" Woodside.  All participants are invited to join in our New Orleans-style "second line" behind the Junkanoo group, dancing along for fun.  Members of the FAMU Caribbean Students Association as well dancers from Nims Middle School will dance in the parade.  Festivities will end at 6 pm.

On Sunday from 2-6 pm we will feature food vendors and Caribbean gospel and spiritual music.  Bands include Positive Vibrations Redeemed and several church choirs, along with special guest artists Lililita (Lyrical Lynn) Forbes and her twin sister, Ilismo, from the island of St. Maarten, who make up the world-renowned Caribbean award-winning duo, "Jumelle" (the word Jumelle in French means twin).  They began their musical journey together at the early age of 12, later deciding to explore their individual talents and musical passion separately.

Food and arts/crafts vendors are welcome, as well as volunteers.  For more information contact caribe2019@gmail.com or check out the website.
