One Year After--Picking Up the Pieces

One Year After--Picking Up the Pieces

Presented by The Joe Center for the Arts at The Joe Center for the Arts

One Year After—Picking up the Pieces commemorates the impact of Hurricane Michael on our  communities along the Forgotten Coast. It celebrates how far we have come in recovery and reminds us of how much still needs to be accomplished before we are whole again.  This exhibit will be hosted by The Joe Center for the Arts, 201 Reid Avenue, Port St. Joe from October 10 to November 9.  The artistic works in this show demonstrate how Michael’s impact has affected and influenced the directions that artists have taken to deal with this trauma. There is healing through art and we invite all our communities to be part of this healing process.

The larger community has contributed to the creation of the Blue Tarp Project, a quilt of memories of the storm represented by photographs, paintings, poetry, and 3-dimensional works.  The Wave Wall created with the ubiquitous plastic water bottles shows the dual nature of water.  It represents how essential bottled water was to all of us after the storm, but also shows the destructive nature of water that caused the need for bottled water in the first place.  A video, From Tears to Triumph presents the stories of local residents who shared their experiences during the hurricane and their hopes for the future recovery of our communities. A public premier of this video will be held on Friday, Oct. 18 from 6:30-8:30pm ET.
