FREE Community-Based Writing & Performance Workshops Exploring Trauma and Resilience (Day 1)
Tallahassee-- Truth Be Told: Actual Lives is offering three community-based workshops in writing and performance exploring trauma, grief, healing and resilience. Participants will work together with facilitators to give voice to a range of stories, memories, attitudes, and experiences that are seldom shared in public. Each workshop will begin with sharing/writing one’s experiences and end with exploring ways to turn those stories into performance narratives. A voluntary third workshop consists of a staged reading of pieces agreed upon by the participants. Some participants may opt to present their own pieces; others may prefer community performers share on their behalf; some may choose not to have their pieces presented at all. These workshops aim to awaken people to their unique perspective and the power inherent in sharing that perspective in a community setting.
These workshops were originally conceived by nationally known writer/performer/ activist Terry Galloway whilst being a Visiting Artist at the University of Texas, Austin. Galloway will be working with two community partners: Yolanda Franklin, acclaimed poet and Visiting Professor at FAMU, and Donna Marie Nudd, the co-founder of the Mickee Faust Club and a Professor of Communications at FSU. Truth Be Told: Actual Lives is supported by the CRA and the Mickee Faust Club.
All workshops are free of charge and will have a small meal provided. Space is extremely limited. Interested participants may register in advance online (http://www.mickeefaust.com/events) or by phone (850-591-3147).
