We close Season 32 with George Frideric Handel, opening with The King Shall Rejoice, one of Handel’s great coronation anthems.
This work, with text taken from the Book of Psalms, was intended for the part of the coronation service when the new monarch receives the crown. A performance of Messiah, Parts II and III, will round out the evening. Popularly known as the “Easter portion” of this timeless masterpiece (though Handel composed the entire work as an Easter celebration) Messiah will be a glorious finale to our first season with Dr. Hanawalt.
