Perceptions: Encounters with African Art

Perceptions: Encounters with African Art

Presented by Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU) at Florida A & M University Architecture Gallery

"Perceptions: Encounters with African Art" is a visually-stimulating exhibition combining artwork from both FAMU’s Fine Arts Collection and students in Visual Arts classes. The goal of this small exhibition is to examine some of the ways outside cultures interpret African art. This will be accomplished through didactic labels written by students in the African Art History course and student artwork based on different assignments in the fine arts courses. Students, under careful supervision, will assist with the exhibition design, art education, installation and deinstallation.

The exhibition will run from October 7th to November 8th in FAMU’s Architecture Gallery with an opening reception on Wednesday, October 9th from 4:00-6:00pm. Gallery hours are Mondays through Fridays from 8:00am to 5:00pm. The exhibition and reception are free and open to the public. Free parking is available in the neighborhood across the road.
