Building Bridges with Beethoven - A Music for Food Concert

Building Bridges with Beethoven - A Music for Food Concert

Presented by Music for Food - Tallahassee at Unitarian Universalist Church of Tallahassee

Live chamber music returns when Music for Food Tallahassee presents another “Building Bridges with Beethoven” concert featuring violinist Corinne Stillwell performing with advanced students from the Florida State University College of Music. The concert will be at 4 PM on Sunday, September 8 at the beautiful Unitarian Universalist Church at 2810 North Meridian Road in Tallahassee.

This concert is the fourth "Music for Food" Tallahassee event, a musician-led initiative to fight hunger in our communities, and will feature two complete string quartets. Beethoven String Quartet Op. 18, No. 1 in F Major will feature Corinne Stillwell and Sommer Altier on violin, Zoe Fernandez on viola and Erica Kremer on cello. This quartet was written by Ludwig van Beethoven between 1798 and 1800 and published in 1801 but is actually the second string quartet that Beethoven composed. The second movement was inspired by the tomb scene from William Shakespeare's “Romeo and Juliet.”

The second piece will be Beethoven String Quartet Op. 74 in E-flat Major, known as “The Harp” and will feature Corinne Stillwell and Megumi Terry on violin, Rossana Cauti on viola, and Riley Beranek on cello. The nickname refers to the pizzicato sections in the first movement, where pairs of members of the quartet alternate the plucking of the strings, like those of a harp.

In lieu of an admission fee, audience members are asked to give a donation of any amount or non-perishable food donations. All proceeds benefit our local Second Harvest of the Big Bend food bank.
