Lawton Chiles Performing Arts presents Music Man

Presented by Lawton Chiles Performing Arts at Lawton Chiles Performing Arts Center

The Lawton Chiles High School Performing Arts Department is excited to present Meredith Wilson’s The Music Man.

“We’re excited to bring this classic Broadway hit and Grammy winning production to our stage,” said Corey Sullivan, faculty choral director, at Chiles High. “Music Man is sure to delight both the young, and young at heart!”

The Music Man will be staged by over 100 students who handle all the primary show functions as cast, crew and orchestra including: acting, singing, dancing, music, scenery and props, sound and lighting, and costumes and makeup. The 30 member student orchestra, under the direction of Chris Miller, faculty orchestral director,  will provide live accompaniment for all performances.

Reserved seating tickets are $14 and can be purchased at ChilesChorus.com or chilestheatre.com. General admission tickets are $10 and student tickets are $8 w/ID. All proceeds will go to support future Performing Arts productions.

“The Music Man” aka Professor Harold Hill, performed by Jacob Higdon arrives in River City with plans to con the town into buying instruments and uniforms for a band to keep the young boys out of trouble.  What he didn’t plan on was falling in love with “Marian the Librarian,” played by Chiles senior, Elizabeth Soto.

The Music Man won five Tony awards including Best Musical in 1958 and an Oscar for Best Music in 1963. Popular hits are “76 Trombones,” Goodnight Ladies,” “Lida Rose,” and “Till There Was You.”

“The students have been working since January, including weekends, to perfect their performances, and execute the technical demands of the show,” added Shannon O’Bryan, faculty theatre director. “It is a joy to watch their collaboration and growth in the arts.” The fourth member of the artistic team is David Jones, local choreographer and director of Killearn Performing Arts.
