This year’s Youth Summer camp ends with a weekend of Beauty and the Beast Jr.
Adapted from a French fairy tale and based on the Disney movie and stage show of the same name, Disney’s Beauty and the Beast Jr. is a fantastic adaptation of a story of transformation and tolerance. The story is about Belle (Maison Fulton, understudy Emma Reagan) a young woman and the Beast who is really a young prince trapped under the spell of an enchantress.
If the Beast (Bryce Kimler) can learn to love and be loved, the curse will end and he will be transformed to his former self. But time is running out. If the Beast does not learn his lesson soon, he and his enchanted objects of the castle who are waiting to be “Human Again” including Cogsworth, a tightly wound clock who heads the castle household (Tanner Martin) , Lumiere, a suave, debonair candelabra (Kenny Smith), Mrs. Potts, a warm- hearted maternal teapot (Shyann Rudisill ), Chip, Mrs. Potts adorable son (Jubileeah Gray), Babette a flirty feather duster (Clarisse Winton), Madame de la Grande Bouche, a former opera diva turned into a wardrobe (Naomi Lamarche), Gaston, the egotistical villain determined to marry Belle (Logan Tomberlin) and his bumbling sidekick Lefou (Carson Broome).
Directed by Robyn Smith-Peters, music direction by Nate Caldwell and Chorography by Jacob Arnette. The cast includes over fifty students from Gadsden County and surrounding area in this year’s Summer Camp program. Performances are: Thursday June 28th at 7:30 p.m., Friday June 29th at 7:30 p.m. Two shows Saturday at 2:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. and Sunday June 30th at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $12 for adults and $7 for children 12 and under.
