Mickee Faust’s summer Queer As Faust XII cabaret.
Tallahassee—In June 1969 in New York City, drag queens, butches, and street kids partying at the Stonewall Inn bar were about to endure another police raid of their sacred space. But in an act of defiance, the assembly rose up and fought back for three nights, terrifying the cops planting a flag for queer liberation that helped change the world. To honor that history, the Mickee Faust Club began its summer spectacular Queer as Faustcabaret, an artistic salute to everything wacky and weird that makes the LGBTQ+ community the fun people that we are and to change summer entertainment in the sweltering Tallahassee.“What can be queerer than an oversized sexually-ambiguous rat with a cigar?” asks Faust, the alter ego of the troupe’s co-founder Terry Galloway. The Queer as Faust cabaret, now in its 12th version, gives the company and the audience members a chance to celebrate love while taking a few jabs at those who would rather we went back in the closet. The company writes all the material which runs the gamut of silly to sexy anthems of pride. Some skits might be better for more mature audiences. Queer as Faust XII runs for two long weekends, Thursday-Saturday June 20-22 and 27-29. All shows start with preshow music in the backyard with Eclectic Acoustic at 7 pm and the performances at 8 pm. Tickets are $20 for general admission; $15 for students, retirees, and people with disabilities. The shows on Thursday are $5 cheaper across the board. The performance will take place in the air-conditioned Adelaide Schnittman Hall, the company black box theater, at 623 McDonnell Drive in Railroad Square. Because of the Schnittman Hall is smaller, buying a ticket in advance at www.mickeefaust.com/events is the best idea. Celebrate pride with the queerest and weirdest theater company in all of Florida. Share some laughs and lift a glass in honor of the 50th anniversary of Stonewall.
Tickets are $20, $15 for students, retirees, and persons with disabilities. $5 off both Thursday shows!
