Mark Dickson: Construction to Commemorate on exhibit in the Jessie Shaw Bates and Mortimer B. Bates, Jr. Lobby
This summer, Gadsden Arts is pleased to exhibit Construction to Commemorate, a 2011 monumental sculpture by Mark Dickson, created of welded steel and stainless steel that stands 7 feet tall. On display in the Jessie Shaw Bates and Mortimer B. Bates, Jr. Lobby, this sculpture is typical Dickson, an entanglement of steel and fire and appears modern, while at the same time reveals elements of the distant past. Dickson is ever exploring and pushing the boundaries of the medium. The artist works in his studio in Railroad Square, Tallahassee, and teaches sculpture part time as a member of the adjunct faculty at North Florida College in Madison, Florida.
