June Exhibitions Opening Reception

June Exhibitions Opening Reception

Presented by Panama City Center for the Arts at Panama City Center for the Arts

Come to the Center for the Arts to kick off our fun-filled summer of cartoons and comics with a free reception!

The main gallery will feature “The Art of Florida Cartoonists,” which showcases a wide variety of visual treasures created by cartoonists, illustrators, and storyboard artists who have lived or worked in the Sunshine State.

In the lower galleries, two more cartoonist shows will be on display. In the Higby Gallery, Teresa Roberts Logan will be featured in a solo show, “Laughing Redhead.” The exhibition will feature both color and pen and ink drawings by Teresa, a comic artist with local ties. In the Miller Gallery, “Pen, Paint, POP!: Local Comics and Cartoon Exhibit,” will feature drawings and paintings by local artists.

All three new exhibitions will be celebrated with an opening reception on Friday, June 7, at 6pm. At the reception, visitors will get a sneak peak at the new exhibitions, meet local artists featured in the local cartoonist and comics show, and snack on light refreshments.

At 7pm that night, we will also have a screening of the documentary “Stripped” in our main gallery. “Stripped” brings together the world’s best cartoonists to talk about the art form they love, and what is happening to it as newspapers die. The documentary explores comic strips in depth, why they’re so loved, and how the artists are navigating this dicey period between print and pixels.

The two lower gallery exhibitions, “Laughing Redhead” and “Pen, Paint, POP!: Local Comics and Cartoon Exhibit” will close on July 5th, while the main gallery exhibition, “The Art of Florida Cartoonists,” will remain open until July 20.
