Sharon Kant-Rauch

From squirrels in the attic to tyrannical birthday parties, from gay parenting to surviving cancer, former Tallahassee Democrat reporter Sharon Kant-Rauch shares her life experiences in columns written over the span of 25 years in her new book, Life in the Out Lane: The Bumpy Road Toward Love, Laughter and Enlightenment. Veering between poignancy and hilarity, these columns take readers on a bumpy ride through the life of a lesbian mom, and a radical woman of faith. Because of her writing, Kant-Rauch has often been described by her former editor as someone who "is not afraid to let down her guard, to portray herself in a less than flattering light, to wrestle with issues the rest of us sidestep, to show how her thinking has evolved." Come hear Sharon read from her book and pick up a signed copy!

Linda Marie

Our current host holds an MFA in painting with a minor in Women’s Studies from the University of South Florida, and a BFA from the University of Hawaii. She is a symbolist painter, writer, poet, and playwright. Linda Marie’s poetry has been published in The Texas Observer, Hawaii Review, Blue Hole, and Enigmatist among various other poetry publications. She was also nominated for a Pushcart Prize. Before moving to Tallahassee, she was the host of Austin Poetry Society’s monthly poetry venue for 6 years. She is beyond thrilled to be the new host of My Favorite Books’ poetry and storytelling open mic, and is looking forward to meeting and introducing many local poets, storytellers, as well as writers!
