Celebrate Emancipation in May! The Knott House Museum, in collaboration with the John G. Riley Museum, highlights a vital moment in Florida history by hosting the Emancipation Day Celebration, Monday, May 20, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sponsored by Hopping Green and Sams and Tallahassee Community Redevelopment Agency, the event is free and open to the public. It features music, good food, and Brian Bibeau’s reenactment of Brigadier General Edward Moody McCook announcing freedom for enslaved persons in Tallahassee in 1865. Visitors may participate in the Freedom Soapbox and the Freedom Quilt activities before and after the ceremony.
