Hemingway’s Cat: Exhibition by Polish Artist Artur Popek

Hemingway’s Cat: Exhibition by Polish Artist Artur Popek

Presented by Gadsden Arts Center & Museum at Gadsden Arts Center & Museum

The Gadsden Arts Center & Museum is pleased to host an exhibition of paintings and fine art prints by internationally accomplished Polish artist Artur Popek. Titled Hemingway’s Cat, the exhibition present Artur Popek’s award-winning graphic prints that span traditional printmaking techniques, such as, etching, aquatint, dry point, and mezzotint. Both his whimsical paintings and prints offer a detailed view into the artist’s imagination, often inspired by nature and civilization. Viewers are invited to enter Popek’s fairytale realities that seem to have no place for a human being.

Artur Popek graduated from the Marie Curie-Sklodowska University (UMCS) in the Polish city of Lublin in 1984. At UMCS, he served as dean of the Faculty of Arts from 2012–2016 and is now the head of the Department of Intaglio printing and Experimental Graphics. Popek is a member of the Association of Polish Visual Artists, the International Print Triennial Association in Krakow, and the International Association of Small Graphic Design in Barcelona and serves as the artistic director of the Society for Arts in Chicago. He has participated in over 50 international and 70 collective exhibitions. He is the author of about 100 catalog projects, books and commercial prints.

Artur Popek: Hemingway’s Cat opened April 13 and will be on view through June 1, 2019 in the Zoe Golloway Gallery.
