In a Southern city, Candy Rose’s quirky good friend, J.C., who dresses up as Broadway musical characters, introduces her to his 12-step recovery program. Once there, as she reluctantly deals with grief from her husband’s death, Candy Rose meets Dylan, a younger man with brain trauma, in recovery for ‘adult children of family dysfunction.’ In her loneliness, Candy Rose develops an unusual attraction to Dylan, looking beyond his unfortunate disability. He pushes her to confront a buried truth about her husband’s death, and the two share a romantic interlude, until Candy Rose realizes she’s doing him more harm than good. What begins as Candy Rose’s good deed to rehabilitate Dylan ends badly, and she realizes she must “let go.”
