Poet and author, T.B. Darks is a budding intellectual, originally from Cincinnati. While currently studying at FAMU, in the disciplines of Sociology and Philosophy, Darks hopes to influence the community by educating the public and through everyday activism. She’ll be reading from her poetry collection: Caged: A Poetic Collection of the African American Experience and signing copies at the end of the event. Starting with the arrival of Africans on America’s shores, Caged explores the impact that slavery has had on the African American community. Darks addresses the idea that slavery never truly ended, and continues to thrive in different forms. While raising the question of modern-day slavery, she expressing her thoughts and opinions on the psychological self and how the past and present external forces still affect the African American community today.
