Leon Theatre presents a devised play about the messy/beautiful teenage brain.
Inside every adolescent brain, 86 billion neurons connect and collide to produce the most frustrating, chaotic and exhilarating changes that will ever happen to us.
Brainstorm is a unique theatrical investigation into how teenagers’ brains work, and the messy/beautiful way our brains develop in ways that give us the greatest advantages as adults (if we survive these messy/beautiful brain development years.) Our show is a devised* piece centered on the latest neuroscience about teenage brains and experiences.
Created by Ned Glasier and Emily Lim with Company Three, in collaboration with neuroscientists Professor Sarah-Jayne Blakemore and Dr Kate Mills, the play is designed to be created and performed by a company of teenagers, drawing directly on their personal experiences.
* Devised theatre can also be called “collective creation” and it is a method of theatre-making in which the script comes from collaborative, improvisatory work by a performing ensemble. Our ensemble was made up of actors and our design/running crew of students. This has truly been a collaborative effort with each scene beginning with the science of what is happening inside our brains. We have all learned so much about this messy/beautiful period of brain development AND how hard it is to write a play!
