Peace & Poetry Workshop

Peace & Poetry Workshop

Presented by St. John's Episcopal Church at St. John's Episcopal Church

In a country where politics are increasingly polarizing and violence and war still prevent many from thriving, it is more important than ever that Christians claim their role as peacemakers. Come explore peacemaking through the lens of contemporary poets at our Peace & Poetry Workshop - “Bringing the Bible to Life” - on Saturday, March 9, from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. in Alfriend Hall.

Led by pastor and poet Emily Rose Proctor, this workshop will introduce the basic tools poetry offers us for peacemaking, and then focus on individual poems that illuminate the task of peacemaking in areas such as family life, caring for creation and loving our neighbor (or stranger or enemy). Poets featured will include Mary Oliver, Sharon Olds, Billy Collins, Terrence Hays and more. There will also be an opportunity to either engage in a small group discussion about peacemaking or take part in a creative writing exercise.

This workshop is free and open to the public, but pre-registration is requested so workshop materials can be prepared
