Ode to Understanding is a community event promoting compassion and empathy. This powerful concert features a new musical composition titled \"Seven Last Words of the Unarmed\", written for male chorus and orchestra. The composer takes the last words of seven, unarmed black men who were killed by authority figures and sets them to music, creating a piece that evokes complex emotions.
Following the first half of the concert, The Village Square will facilitate a dialogue among attendees to process the performance and discuss its impacts. The discussion will feature composer Joel Thompson, Leon County Sheriff Walt McNeil, FSU Police of Chief David Perry, and TSO Board members Patrick Slevin and Byron Greene.
The second piece on the concert is Beethoven\'s 9th Symphony, the ultimate expression of humanity, brotherhood, bonding and equality.
The TSO is joining with the Atlanta-based Morehouse College Glee Club and the FAMU Concert Choir for this magnificent performance.
